I purchased this tumbler for my girlfriend. When I got it residence I opened it and poured in water from the teakettle. Employing a instant study food thermometer I checked the temp. I began at 206 deg, closed the lid and let it set. at 1 hour the temp was 193 deg. At 2 hours 182 deg at 4 hours 164 deg and at 6 hours temp was nonetheless 152 degrees. more than a 6 hours period the temp only decreased 54 degrees. Throughout my test I noticed that the outside of the cup did not really feel at all warm to the touch the only component that changed at all was the leading and then only slightly warmer. I also tested the seal by turning the cup upside down for one of the hours with no leaks at all.
I do suggest that you do not put liquid that is too hot in it expecting it to cool down to drinking level on the way to function. you won't get something to drink.
I noticed that this was coming out when I was shopping for mugs a couple of months ago, so I kept checking back until it was released, and I am glad I did. I had ended up with the Contigo mug prior to, which was OK, but I never actually liked the styling. This mug is at least as really good as the Contigo, and is able to be completely disassembled, so those that were worried about the construct up in the mechanisms of the Contigo do not have to have to have that concern right here.
Seriously the only downside of this mug is that to fit the disassembling seals, it is a couple inches taller than most mugs are, being only slightly shorter than an typical 20 oz. bottle. The size doesn't bother me, and the sealing mechanism is wonderful adequate that even with the mug in the open position (you press down on the middle button, and it will snap in an open position) I'm still practically burning my tongue on my coffee two hours later.
Extremely recommended!
